The Western Texas College Theatre Department will present Nevermore, its first play of the fall semester, at 7:30 p.m. today at the Fine Arts Theatre.
The production will also be staged at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $5 each and will be available at the door.
Written by Julian Wiles, Nevermore explores the mysterious last five days of Edgar Allan Poe’s life.
On Sept. 27, 1849, Poe boarded a ship in Baltimore for an overnight voyage to New York, but never arrived. Five days later, he was found delirious on a Baltimore street, and without regaining his senses, he died. What happened to Poe has forever remained a mystery.
“In an era of zombies and apocalyptic characters, Poe and his fantastic imaginings would feel right at home,” director Ray Newton said of Nevermore.
Rankin Bullard has the role of Edgar Allan Poe. Others cast members are Sasha Miller, Troy McKinney, Bret Bondoc, Victoria Nall, Taylor Sealy, Keelie Deville, Ray Newton Jr., Maria Victoria Ramey and Destany Davis.
In addition to Newton, the design and technical support crew consists of Teresa Newton, Davis and Ramey.
