Darla Kay (Smith) McCarter

1973–2020

Darla Kay (Smith) McCarter, 46, died Tuesday, April 14, 2020, at her home in Garland.

Services will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Darla was born July 7, 1973, in Snyder to (James) Pat Smith and (Virginia) Sue Smith. Darla was a nurse in the Snyder area for 20 years. She worked many of those years at both Snyder Oaks and Snyder Nursing Home, starting as a nurses’ aid before finishing school to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). She loved caring for people and had a knack for relating with her elderly patients, able to get even the most ornery to crack a smile. She later worked in the emergency room at Cogdell Memorial Hospital and Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater.

She was preceded in death by her father; her grandparents, J.P. and Cleao Smith of Snyder and Gene and Eula Smith of Fluvanna; and an uncle, Raymond Smith of Snyder.

Survivors include her son, Kaden McCarter of Snyder; her mother; three sisters, Dana Smith Carter and husband, Robert, of Flower Mound, Cherokee Atwood Stewart and husband, Travis, of Leonard and Cheyenne Atwood of Richardson; a brother, James Preston Smith of Richardson; an uncle, Gary Smith and wife, Shirley, of Snyder; an aunt, Ann Franks and husband, Jimmy, of Farmington, N.M.; seven cousins, David Smith, Allen Smith, Casey Franks, Jamie Franks, Lindsay Franks, Rusty Smith and Logan Smith; and seven nephews, James Derek Smith, Christopher Johnson, Jonathon Smith, Trevor Smith, Tucker Smith, Jacob Smith and Joey Edmison.

Mrs. Johnnie Faye Sellars, 69, of Snyder died Thursday, April 16, 2020.

Graveside services for Mrs. Sellars will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hillside Memorial Gardens with Pastor Matt Lowry officiating. Services are under the direction of Miller Family Funeral Home.
