Jesse Faulkenbery III
1945-2018
Jesse Denver Faulkenbery III was born on March 15, 1945 in Richmond, Calif. to Jesse Denver Faulkenbery Jr. and Clorette (Brown) Faulkenbery. The Faulkenbery family moved to Texas in 1949 and Jesse attended school in Snyder until his graduation in 1963. He met the love of his life in 1967 and he and Carolyn Stewart were married on Aug. 24, 1968. Jesse and Carolyn called Snyder their home for the last 50 years, raising three sons, Marc, Paul and Stephen.
Jesse had three passions in his life, first and foremost, the love for our Savior, Jesus Christ, second, the bond and love for his family, and third, the love of music and serving God through his music.
Jesse loved to study the Bible and talk with anyone he could about his love for Jesus. This gift continued on when he was led to Bethel Baptist Church, where he preached throughout the 1980s. Having to leave the pulpit for health reasons, he never stopped being a disciple for Jesus, leading many to our Savior.
Jesse loved his family and was so proud of his three sons and the fact the Faulkenbery name would live on within each son. Jesse and Carolyn raised their three boys with the foundation built on the word of God and this was passed on to each of their families. Over the last 23 years, Jesse’s family grew with three beautiful daughters-in-law, Jennifer, Marc’s Jennifer as commonly referred to in the family, Sherry and Jennifer, or Stephen’s Jennifer. He was blessed with six grandkids, Jordyn, Rachel, Bailey, Ryan, Austin and Natalie. He was so proud of each kid and loved them so very much.
Jesse’s third passion was his music. He was so talented and was one of the best guitar pickers ever known. He very well could have picked country music for any well-known talent, but refused to play in a smoky bar on Saturday night and serve God on Sunday in church, even though he often said it would probably be the same crowd. Jesse served God throughout his life and shared the Word with many. As 2 Timothy tells us, “Preach the word, be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage with great patience and careful instruction.” We can honestly say, Jesse lived this passage, he took the gift of music and talking to people and shared the Word.
Jesse, it is time to rest in peace, we will carry on your passion and be the disciple you have taught us to be.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Faulkenbery Jr.; one sister, Sheila Faulkenbery; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Elvin and Jewel Stewart; two brothers-in-law, Jerry Stewart and Curtis Wilson; one sister-in-law, Cindy Stewart; and one niece, Rhonda Clements.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Faulkenbery of Snyder; his mother, Clorette Faulkenbery of Snyder; three sons, Marc Faulkenbery and his wife, Jennifer, of The Woodlands, Paul Faulkenbery and his wife, Sherry, of Snyder and Stephen Faulkenbery and his wife, Jennifer, of Clyde; six grandchildren, Jordan, Rachel, Bailey, Ryan, Austin and Natalie; and three brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law, Bill and Pat Stewart of Abilene, Joe and Vanessa Stewart of Snyder, Jeff and Dawn Stewart of Comanche and Debbi Wilson of Roff, Okla.
Funeral service Mr. Faulkenbery will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Miller Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Carroll officiating. Burial will follow at Hobbs Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Cogdell Hospice nurses and Kinney Robinson.
Memorials be made to the Scurry County Library, 1916 23rd St., Snyder, TX 79549.

Guy Sullivan
1927-2018
A memorial service for Guy Lloyd Sullivan, 90, of Lubbock, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018 at Venue on Broadway in Lubbock. The service will be under the direction of Combest Family Funeral Home of Lubbock.
Guy was born on Nov. 26, 1927 at the family home near Centerpoint, Ark. to Guy A. and Gladys Hardie Sullivan.  He remained a lifelong Arkansas Razorback fan and was particularly proud when former Western Texas College coach Nolan Richardson went to the University of Arkansas to coach men’s basketball.
He graduated from Texarkana (Texas) High School on D-Day, June 7, 1944. Guy was a 1951 graduate of Abilene Christian College (ACC), where he was in the Big Purple Band and also was a key player on the intercollegiate badminton team. While at ACC, his mother kept a boarding house for young men, some of whom became Guy’s lifelong friends.
Guy taught physical education at West Elementary School in Snyder from 1953-58. During this time, “Mr. Sullivan” helped start the Little Olympics for the elementary schools in Snyder.
His work with track and field during PE classes and with track programs carried him across the state to many summer track meets.
As his family grew, Guy decided to enter the insurance business. He worked first with Lamb Insurance Agency at Lamb’s Auto dealership, next with his sister, Delois Palmer, on the square at Sullivan Insurance Agency and then partnered with former Snyder ISD Superintendent M.E. Stanfield to form Sullivan-Stanfield Insurance. They moved the business to the shopping center adjacent to the McCormick family’s Super 66 full-service gas station on the East Highway. Many a cup of coffee was consumed at the 66 Café with friends and people just passing through Snyder.  Guy finished out his Snyder insurance career at a business location in the Snyder Shopping Center.
Guy was active in several civic groups. He served on the Snyder City Council, was a member of the Snyder Kiwanis Club, the Boys Club board, the Scurry County Summer Recreation board and was a Snyder Gold Coat representative. He also was elected to consecutive terms as WTC Booster Club president in the early years of Western Texas College.
In 2017, Guy was honored for 60 years of service as a charter board member of Camp Blue Haven, a Bible youth camp in New Mexico.
After moving to Lubbock, Guy also volunteered for 10 years with the Covenant Health Center’s Auxiliary staff, a position that brought him — and those with whom he greeted — great joy.  In all of these civic and service-oriented roles, Guy delighted in talking to people and making connections.
His role as a father to five children and stepfather to one also kept him busy. It was nothing for a week to include watching a baseball game, a volleyball match, a basketball game and a tennis match. From choir concerts to one-act play performances, Guy was involved and present. This continued with his college-age children as he drove to Abilene often to watch baseball, volleyball and ACU homecoming musicals or dinner theaters or just to take his children and their friends out to eat.
Sundays and Wednesdays were for church, and the rest of the week was a mix of work, school functions, hunting when it was in season or playing fast-pitch softball. Guy’s love of fast-pitch began in college and continued during his days in Snyder. He pitched his last game at the age of 52.
Several litters of bird dogs were born on Hill Ave. in Snyder, much to the delight of his children. He consented to creative, and sometimes landscape destructive, fort-building in the back yard and insisted on sitting down together for meals and eating everything on the plate.
Guy was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Delois Haney, and one nephew, Lynn Palmer.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Elaine; two sons, Scotty Sullivan and his wife, Mary, of Abilene; and Shane Sullivan of Lubbock; three daughters, Sue Jane Sullivan of Gail, Dr. Sara Dodd and her husband, Dr. Tim Dodd, and Sabrina Blankenship and her husband, Kelly, all of Lubbock; one stepdaughter, Mikki Slaughter and her husband, Jay, of Austin; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Guy and his family also hosted a student foreign exchange daughter, Robyn Trail, from New Zealand in 1976-77, who now resides with her husband, David, in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Memorials may be made to Camp Blue Haven Youth Camp, Inc., P.O. Box 92156, Southlake, TX 76092 or Sunset International Bible Institute, 3723 34th Street, Lubbock, TX 79410.
