Bob Barbee
1941-2018
Mr. Robert “Bob” Elmer Barbee, 77, of Snyder, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2018 in Snyder.
A memorial service for Mr. Barbee will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home with the Rev. Rocky Alexander officiating.
Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Born in Abilene on April 8, 1941 to Ethel (Carlisle) and R.L. “Tee” Barbee, he was the third of eight children born to the Barbees.
He graduated from Stamford High School in 1960 and then attended Sul Ross State University until he enlisted in the Army in 1962. He served in the Special Forces, Army Intelligence and the Security Agency within Vietnam until 1965. Upon his discharge, he moved to Snyder to work at Sunray DX. He later went to work for SACROC as an electrician and later as the production and operations supervisor in Snyder, Monahans and Westbrook. He helped design and build the first production operational field computer for Chevron and had an instrumental role in having the SACROC’s Millionth Barrel Celebration in October 1973. He retired after 33 years of dedicated service.
He graduated from Western Texas College with an associate’s degree in electromechanical technology and he later taught the motors and controls course within that degree plan. He went on to hire several of his students who graduated to work alongside him at Chevron.
He was a member of the Ira Methodist Church and the Ira and Scurry Masonic Lodges for more than 40 years. He served in all offices of the lodge. He also served several years on the Ira ISD board of trustees and was an active member of the Ira Booster Club that built the Bulldogs’ home grandstands and the fence around the football field.
Bob was proud to be an American, a Texan and most importantly a veteran. He was well known for always giving his family and friends interesting nicknames. If you got a nickname, you knew you were special.
He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2010, but it did not start to slow him down until recent months. He always continued to be a husband, dad, father-in-law, granddad and special friend to many. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
Bob loved his kids and grandkids and enjoyed spending all his time with them. He loved to tell them Jake stories, take them hunting, teaching them the responsibilities behind raising and showing livestock and watching them play any and all sports. He loved to support them and enjoyed watching them in all they were a part of growing up. He was ultimately their biggest fan. Even his stadium seat read “My favorite people call me Granddad,” a title he was so proud of and loved.
His hobbies were hunting, vacationing in Ruidoso with his family and spending time with his prized herd of registered British White cattle. He was honored to host the national convention of the British White Cattle Association in Snyder for two years.
Bob met the love of his life, Carolyn Clark in October 1965. After three months of courtship, they married at Ira Methodist Church on Dec. 30, 1965. They spent 52 wonderful and adventurous years together, traveling and enjoying each other’s company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and R.L. “Tee” Barbee, one sister, Bethene Wade, and two brothers-in-law, Jay Lynn Clark and Kelton Clark.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Barbee of Snyder; one daughter, Kaila Barbee-Loving and her husband, Cody, of Ira; one son, Charles “Chuck” Barbee and his wife, Paula, of Ira; one brother, Pete Barbee and his wife, Ann, of Abilene; five sisters, Gerry Jowers and her husband, Harvey, of Boyce, La., Mary Moore and her husband, Pat, of Betram, Shelia Tutt and Joe, of Huntsville, Joyce Cozart and her husband, Mac, of Perryton and Doris Gayle Baumbach and her husband, Shorty, of Hawley; two sisters-in-law, Lena Clark of Snyder and Joanna Clark of North Carolina; two brothers-in-law, Drew Clark of Abilene and Bobby Wade of Anson; eight grandchildren, Brandon Lunsford and his wife, Allie, of Abilene, Blake Barbee, Grayson Barbee and Brilynn Loving, all of Ira, Brock Barbee of Lubbock, Brittany Barbee of Mineral Wells, Bryce Loving of Norfolk, Va. and Kayla Taylor of Canyon; two great-grandchildren, Zane and McKinley Lunsford, both of Abilene, and Myles Barbee, who is due to arrive in December; and numerous nieces and nephews living all over.

Candy Drummond
1948-2018
Candyce “Candy” Drummond, 70, of Midland, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018 in Midland.
Funeral service for Mrs. Drummond will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Stonegate Fellowship Church in Midland with Pastor Patrick Payton officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home in Odessa.
