Jennie Marie Cathey

1929-2020

Jennie Marie Cathey (Boggan), 90, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020, at the Parks Senior Living Community in Odessa.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hillside Memorial Gardens in Gail.

She was born on Dec. 1, 1929 in Snyder to William Clair Boggan and Madge Blythe Boggan. She married C.W. “Snooks” Cathey on Dec. 31, 1945, in Roswell, N.M.

Throughout her life she spent many years working in the restaurant business. With their kids in tow, Jennie and Snooks traveled throughout Texas and Oklahoma to find their next venture, collecting and sharing many stories along the way.

Jennie was a caregiver at heart and was always there to support and guide many of her family members throughout their early years. From the age of 13 following the passing of her father, Jennie then helped her mother in raising her three younger sisters, something she cherished and was proud to do. She loved keeping her grandchildren during the summers to entertain them and have fun in the simplest of tasks. Each one felt a special connection with her and they created many memories.

She loved being surrounded by her family and would cherish every moment that was captured on camera. Her pictures of her family were her most proud and prized possessions and she was always excited to share those memories with any visiting company.

Her laugh was infectious and filled every room she was in, and not many people she met remained a stranger for long.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her father; her mother and stepfather Jym Hendrix; and daughters, Jill Candelaria and Jan Marshall.

Survivors include her children, Gilda Kaye Autrey and husband, Ardell, of Grants, N.M., Brenda Gail Denton and husband, Jerry Don, of Odessa and Charles Wade “Chuck” Cathey and wife, Lesli, of Dripping Springs; her sisters, Callie Birdwell, Norma Wallace and Melba Canon; her grandchildren, Alton Autrey and wife, Concie, Dollie Jaramillo and husband, Matthew, Cathey Darby and husband, Robert, Dawnna Talley and husband, Mike, Becky Bevers and husband, Ronny, Jay Dee Denton and wife, Kristi, Daniel Candelaria and wife, Linda, Jamie Candelaria and wife, Dee, Jayana Marshall and fiance, Micah Pong, Mackinsey Cathey, Kirby Cathey and Kelsey Cathey; 20 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family would love to hear your fondest memories of Jennie.
