Paublo “Paul” Zapata Martinez

1951-2022

Paublo “Paul” Zapata Martinez, 71 of Lubbock, passed away December 3. His family and friends knew him simply as Paul or Popo.

Paul was born to Mateo and Angelita (Zapata) Martinez on June 30, 1951 in Slaton. Paul brought a smile to others with his caring heart and warm grin. Others benefited from his presence – he never met a stranger. Listening to music, fishing, grilling, carpentry projects, enjoying old cowboy westerns and hanging with his friends and family were of high priority in Paul’s 71 years. Paul worked with Burnett Safety Services and other oil field services throughout his life. Paul was hardworking and loved his family more than life itself. All in all, Paul just wanted to help others and love his family members. He knew who and what he believed in – he now rests in heaven.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and a sister.

Paul leaves behind three sons; Paulie Martinez and the mothers of his children, Tasha Garcia and Billie Bennett, Ruben Martinez and Joseph Martinez and wife Leticia Martinez; three daughters, Daisy Bailey and husband Jeremy Bailey, Wanda Martinez and Lisa Martinez, all of Snyder; twenty-six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and an extensive family of seven brothers and six sisters.

There will be fellowship and a viewing on Friday at Miller Funeral Home Chapel from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction and care of Miller Family Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be conducted on Saturday at the First Assembly of God at 2 p.m. with Pastor Mandy Pena, bringing a comforting word.
