She crocheted and knitted. She always had a project going as she could not just sit and do nothing. After she moved to Abilene, she made 525 dresses for girls in Zambia.

Mrs. Carey was a longtime member of Eastside Church of Christ in Snyder, where she was involved in teaching girls’ classes, ladies’ Bible class and the Dorcas Room, where many ladies worked together to make bedspreads, curtains, pajamas and dresses. She also liked to go to Gallup, N.M. to work with Manuelito Navajo Children’s Home, taking care of Navajo children.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, three brothers, one daughter-in-law, Charlotte Carey, and one granddaughter, Shawna Burnett.

Survivors include one daughter, Jan Watson and her husband, Ray, of Hamby; one son, Scott Carey of Merkel; four granddaughters, Kelle Spinn and her husband, Craig, of Round Rock, Kriste Burnett of Mineral Wells, Sunne Schaake and her husband, Scott, of Abilene and Tracey Carey of Merkel; and five great-granddaughters, Megan Spinn of Pflugerville, Kristen Spinn of College Station, Brittane and Brianne Schaake, both of Abilene, and Lindsey Carey of Merkel.
