M.L. Chandler

1933-2017

M.L. Chandler, 84, of Snyder, died Friday, July 21, 2017 in Lubbock.

Funeral service for Mr. Chandler will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Colonial Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Tommy Culwell officiating. Burial will follow at Snyder Cemetery under the direction of Miller Family Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

 

Marjorie Daniel

1927-2017

Marjorie Lee Daniel, 90, of Snyder, died Friday, July 21, 2017 in Snyder.  

Memorial service for Mrs. Daniel will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Colonial Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Tommy Culwell officiating. The service will be under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Mrs. Daniel was born on May 11, 1927 in Pearsall to Dudley and Ruby (Bridges) Bredthauer. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Dr. John W. Chandler and Mayo Daniel; three sons. Dr. Kirk Chandler, John Irby Chandler and Ira Lyn Chandler; and one brother, George Bowman. 

Survivors include two sons, John Chandler and his wife, Sharon, of Snyder and Rudy Chandler and his wife, Layne, of Elk City, Okla.; one sister-in-law, Rosemary Chandler of Crosbyton; one sister, Doris Martin of El Paso; and six grandchildren, Christopher Chandler, John Wesley Chandler, Aaron Chandler, Devin Pierce, Kristina Chandler and Montana Chandler.

Doug Flynn

1923-2017

Emil Douglas Flynn, 94, of Snyder, died Sunday, July 23, 2017.

Graveside service for Mr. Flynn will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hillside Memorial Gardens. The service will be under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Flynn was born on July 5, 1923 in Orange, N.J. to Walter H. and Dorothy Decker Flynn. He married Jo Ervin Bailey on May 3, 1943 in Louisville, Ky. when they were both 19. After active service in the U.S. Army Air Corps, he returned to New Jersey, where he attended Montclair State College, obtaining a master’s degree in accounting while working as a garbage man to support his young family. The family moved to Virginia, where he was an investment advisor and taught accounting at Bluefield College. Through all of this, he continued to serve in the U.S. Air Force Reserve as a liaison officer for the U.S. Air Force Academy, retiring after 42 years as a lieutenant colonel. In 1957, the family moved to Snyder, where he was the business manager/assistant superintendent of Snyder ISD for 23 years.

Mr. Flynn had a lifelong love of flying. In the Army Air Corps, he flew the C-46, C-47 and the CG-4A Glider, in which he was an instructor pilot. After moving to Snyder, he continued to fly for the Diamond M Foundation and various friends. He also served on the Scurry County Airport board of directors for many years. He played a key role in the establishment, provisioning of, and subsequent management of the National World War II Glider Pilot Museum in Lubbock. For many years he served as the national president of the WWII Glider Pilots Association and later as the treasurer of the Silent Wings Foundation.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his bothers, Walter H. Flynn Jr. and Roger A. Flynn.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Jo Bailey Flynn; three children, John and his wife, Vicki, of Santa Fe, N.M., Mike and his wife, Laura, of Las Cruces, N.M. and Tim and his wife, Maria, of Kalaheo, Hawaii; his younger brother, Roland R. Flynn of Hackettstown, N.J.; one brother-in-law, Joseph Rhodes of Mendham, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Scott, Shannon, Brian, Colin, Michelle, Windsor, Christopher and Lily; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Additionally, he is survived by friends too numerous to mention whose love and care was made abundantly clear to both him and his family during this last month of his life.

He loved well and was well loved.

Kenneth Housden

1942-2017

Kenneth Wayne Housden, 75, of Sanger and formerly of Hedley, died Thursday, July 20, 2017 in Denton.

Funeral service for Mr. Housden will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Hedley with the Rev. Bruce Howard officiating. Burial will follow in the Rowe Cemetery under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Born on Jan. 30, 1942 in Clarendon to Orville and Mildred Lindsey Housden, he married Sammie Lee Sanders on May 31, 1963 in Silverton. He was a resident of Eastland before moving to Sanger three years ago. Kenneth coached at Lubbock Roosevelt, Lubbock Cooper, Slaton, Corpus Christi, Snyder, Lockney, Ranger College and Hedley prior to his retirement. He recorded more than 700 wins as a basketball coach. He loved hunting and fishing.         

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Melvin Housden.

Survivors include his wife, Sammie Housden of Sanger; one son, Rick Housden and his wife, Melanie, of Hamilton; three daughters, Carie Gafford and her husband, Russell, of Snyder, Angie Burrus and her husband, Roger, of Seguin and Evette Flores and her husband, Hector, of Sanger; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Michelle Nobles

1971-2017

Michelle Nobles, 45, of Snyder, died Saturday, July 22, 2017 in Snyder.

Funeral service for Mrs. Nobles will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Snyder Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Born on Oct. 20, 1971 in Snyder to Charles and Joy (Tatom) Smith, she married John Nobles on July 4, 2012 in Snyder.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Survivors include her husband, John Nobles of Snyder; four sons, John K. Nobles of Lawton, Okla., Jeremiah Nobles of Warsaw, Ind., Steven Nobles of Lufkin and John Nobles II of Odessa; three daughters, Michelle Floyd of Apple Springs and Neoma Richardson and Donna Knipp, both of Salina, Kansas; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her mother, Joy Smith of Hermleigh; 10 brothers, Chuck Smith of Diamond, Mo., Jay Smith of Aspermont, Jim Smith of Mineral Wells, Billy Smith, Bobby Smith, Harve Smith and Scott Smith, all of Hermleigh, Karl Smith of Ira and Frank Smith and J.P. Smith, both of Snyder; three sisters, Brandy Harty of Hermleigh and Samantha Johnson and Georganna Smith, both of Snyder; and several nieces and nephews.
