Alfred “Gene” Vernon
1959-2020

Mr. Alfred  “Gene” Vernon Jr., 81, of Snyder died Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at his home.
A graveside service for Mr. Vernon will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Snyder Cemetery with the Rev. Kevin Phillips officiating. No visitation is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Vernon was born on June 30, 1938, in San Antonio to Ollie Irene (Niedecken) and Alfred Eugene Vernon Sr. He married Peggy Trice on April 6, 1959, in Alexandria, Va. 
Gene was a member of the First United Methodist Church and owned and operated Circle “In” Grocery with his wife Peggy for 27 years. He also hauled burrs for the vonRoeder Gin and mowed highway rights of way for the Texas Highway Department. Gene also drove a truck for Gordon Gray and Grimmett Brothers and planted and raised 10 acres for the local farmers market.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Douglas Vernon; two nephews, Roy and Darrell Ray Vernon; and a godchild, Kathi Armstrong Rodgers.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Vernon, of Snyder; a sister, Kathryn Crump and her husband, Gene, of Crawford; three brothers, Wallace Vernon and his wife, Emmadell, of Killeen, Charles Vernon and his wife, Linda, of Ingelside on the Bay and Kenneth Vernon of Dallas; a brother-in-law, Jerry Trice and his wife, Janice, of Linden; two godchildren, Ann Armstrong Cody and John Armstrong, both of Snyder; and numerous nieces and nephews.
