12 Lady Tigers named to all-district softball team

Rodriguez, Hurt garner individual honors from head coaches

The Snyder Lady Tiger softball team claimed two of District 5-4A’s seven individual softball awards this season.
Senior Zowie Rodriguez was named the district’s catcher of the year and sophomore Alyssa Hurt was voted the pitcher of the year. 
Rodriguez led Snyder with a .667 batting average during district and finished with eight RBIs, four doubles, three triples and one home run. 
Hurt was 5-3 in district with a 2.27 earned run average and 40 strikeouts.
Snyder finished second in the district this season behind Big Spring. The Lady Tigers qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2016, losing to Graham in the first round.
Three Lady Tigers — Natalee James, Abby Benitez and Giselle Gutierrez — were named to the first team. 
James finished with a .500 batting average with three triples, one home run and eight RBIs while Benitez batted .429 with one double and three RBIs. Gutierrez batted .333 in district with one double and three RBIs.
Caira Galvan and Melyni Garcia were named to the second team. 
Galvan finished with a .357 batting average in district with one triple and four RBIs while Garcia hit .368 with three doubles and three RBI.
Seniors Morgan Grant and Maeghan Medrano and junior Adrianna Juarez were honorable mention selections. 
Grant had a .450 batting average with six doubles, one home run and seven RBIs and Medrano hit .381 with two doubles and five RBIs. Juarez hit .235 with two doubles and three RBIs.
Snyder players named to the academic all-district team were Benitez, Galvan, Grant, Hurt, James, Maria Jaramillo, Natalia Juarez and Medrano.
Big Spring’s Maddie Daniels was named the district’s most valuable player. Sweetwater’s Tavis Black was voted the offensive most valuable player while teammate Bri Moriel was named the utility player of the year. Midland Greenwood’s Katelyn Keel was selected the defensive most valuable player and San Angelo Lake View’s Mikaila Wagner was voted the newcomer of the year.
