NEW HOME — Anthony Coy rushed for 330 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Ira Bulldogs to a 72-46 win over New Home in a non-district football game Friday.
Karson Valentine completed 4-of-5 passes for 77 yards and one touchdown. Nathan Goodwin completed 2-of-4 passes for 48 yards and two touchdowns.
Ira finished with 538 total yards — 413 rushing and 125 passing.
The Bulldogs scored first on Coy’s 6-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Valentine added the two-point conversion kick to give Ira an 8-0 lead.
After New Home’s Gabriel Cantu’s 13-yard touchdown run, Ira answered by scoring two touchdowns.
Matthew Brazil scored on an 11-yard run and Coy added a 22-yard touchdown run. Valentine made both conversion kicks to give Ira a 24-8 lead.
Reed Bundy caught a 71-yard touchdown pass from Caul Erwin as New Home trailed 24-14 going into the second quarter.
Ira increased its lead on Coy’s 3-yard touchdown run and touchdown passes of 11 yards from Goodwin to Asher Fowlkes and six yards from Valentine to Coy.
The Bulldogs led 48-14 at halftime.
New Home scored 20 points in the third quarter. Sam Kirkland caught a 27-yard pass from Erwin and also recovered a fumble in the end zone. Erwin threw a 3-yard touchdown passto Bundy. Cantu made one conversion kick as New Home trailed 48-34 going into the fourth quarter.
Ira regained the momentum early in the fourth quarter when Goodwin complated a 37-yard toucheown pass to Valentine, who made the conversion kick. Later in the quarter, the Bulldog defense recorded to increase the lead to 56-34.
Valentine had a 53-yard touchdown run and Fowkles recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown.
New Home reached the end zone two more times when Erwin completed a 45-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Cockerell and Nathaniel Mojica added an 8-yard touchdown run.
Valentine and Fowlkes led Ira’s defense with 7.5 tackles each. Brazil had an interception.
Hermleigh 48, Highland 42
ROSCOE — The Hermleigh Cardinals scored two touchdowns in the final 45 seconds to defeat Highland, 48-42.
Matt Gonzales caught a pair of 7-yard touchdown passes from Devin Hildebrand, the first with 45 seconds left and the game-winner with 20 seconds left on the clock.
Hildebrand rushed for 153 yards and scored two touchdowns and completed 10-of-16 passes for 160 yards and four touchdowns. Gonzales caught four passes for 77 yards and three touchdowns.
Tucker Barton caught a 37-yard touchdown pass from Hildebrand with 7:28 left in the first quarter. Justin Wilson’s two-point conversion kick gave the Cardinals an 8-0 lead. Highland’s Baily Garrett returned the ensuing kickoff 45 yards for a touchdown. The Cardinals blocked the conversion kick and led, 8-6.
Hildebrand’s 44-yard touchdown run with 7:06 left in the quarter gave Hermleigh a 14-6. The Hornets tied the score at 14-14 on Eric Sauer’s 38-yard touchdown run and conversion kick.
Hermleigh scored two touchdowns during the second quarter. Hildebrand completed a 48-yard touchdown pass to Gonzales and Payton Rivera added a 13-yard touchdown run. Hermleigh took a 28-14 lead into halftime.
Highland’s Nolan Montgomery’s 10-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Mitchell and Saucer’s conversion kick in the third quarter cut Hermleigh’s lead to 28-22.
Montgomery’s 22-yard touchdown gave Highland a lead, but Hildebrand’s 37-yard touchdown run gave the Cardinals the lead early in the fourth quarter.
The Hornets regained the lead , 42-32, on Sauer’s 49-yard touchdown run and 15-yard touchdown pass to Montgomery..
Hermleigh will host Lueders-Avoca Friday.
Borden County
ZEPHYR — The Borden County shut out Austin Veritas 60-0.
