Bulldogs remain undefeated with victory against Jayton

JAYTON — The Ira Bulldogs reached the midway point of the season with an undefeated record.
Ira scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and four in the second quarter to end Friday’s game against Jayton on the 45-point mercy rule at halftime, 62-13.
Quarterback Hunter Cotton completed two passes for 28 yards, both for touchdowns. Ramiro Rios led the ground game with 151 yards on six carries with four touchdowns. Kaven Dillard had 23 yards on one run while Hunter Hammit ran for an 11-yard touchdown.
Rios put Ira on the scoreboard with eight minutes left in the first quarter on a 25-yard run and he made the two-point kick.
Ira scored two touchdowns before the end of the quarter. Cotton completed touchdown passes of 23 yards to Emanuel Cabrera and five yards to Austin Rollins. Rios made both conversion kicks to give Ira a 24-6 lead.
Rios opened the second quarter with a 3-yard touchdown run to increase Ira’s lead to 30-6.
The Bulldogs scored four touchdowns over the next six minutes. Rios ran 44 and 56 yards for touchdowns and made the two-point kicks. Cotton returned an interception for a touchdown and Hammit scored on an 11-yard run with 1:19 left in the first half.
Eddie Ervin led the defense with 10.5 tackles, including 4.5 tackles for loss. Anthony Sosa had 7.5 tackles, followed by Cotton with three tackles. Cabrera had 2.5 tackles while Boocker Brasuel had 1.5 tackles and Rios had one tackle.
Ira JV 21, Jayton 13
IRA — Nathan Good rushed for three touchdowns to lead the Ira JV football team past Jayton 21-13 Thursday.
Westbrook led 7-0 until Good scored on a 9-yard run in the second quarter. Rand Martin caught a pass from Paxton Cooley for the one-point conversion to tie the game at 7-7.
The Bulldogs (3-1) took the lead on Good’s 5-yard scoring run in the third quarter. Good also ran for the conversion. Good had a 6-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Cooley completed a pass to Martin for the conversion.
Good rushed for 144 yards on 30 carries. Martin led the defense with 11 tackles. Brayden Corley had nine tackles.
IJHS 71, Jayton 26
Anthony Coy ran for 188 yards and scored seven touchdowns to lead Ira Junior High School to a 71-26 rout of Jayton.
The Bulldogs (3-0) scored three touchdowns during the first quarter. Coy had scoring runs of 2, 18 and 28 yards. Nathan Goodwin completed two conversion passes to Carter Roberson and one Karson.
Ira increased its lead during the second quarter. Coy scored on runs of 18, 9 and 40 yards. Raemi Castillo had a 10-yard touchdown run.
Asher Fowlkes had a 3-yard scoring run and Coy ran 20 yards for a touchdown during the third quarter. Coy and Fowlkes each ran for conversions.
Castillo scored on a 46-yard run and Zant Lewis ran 33 yards for a touchdown to end the game on the 45-point mercy rule.
Goodwin led the defense with eight tackles, followed by Leeroy Tavarez with six tackles. Kaen Prince and Lewis each recovered two fumbles.
