Bulldogs win Highland Hilltop Relays

The Ira Bulldogs won the team title at Thursday’s Highland Hilltop Relays.
The Bulldogs scored 123 points to beat out Borden County for the team title. Hermleigh finished seventh with 38 points.
Isaac Cabrera won the 800- and 1600-meter runs for Ira while the 800-meter relay team of Hunter McCowen, Anthony Coy, Karson Valentine and Garrett Hafer also picked up first place medals. In the field events, Karson Valentine won the long jump.
Ira finished sixth in the girls’ standings with 49 points while Hermleigh was eighth with 30 points. 
Breauna Hall won the discus for Ira while teammate Katelyn Clifton won the high jump. 
Hermleigh’s Makia Gonzales won the shot put.
The Bulldog JV finished second with 148 points, which included first-place finishes by Shad Cox in the 800-meter run, Zach White in the 110-meter hurdles, Gage Peterson in the high jump and Ike Weaver in the pole vault.
Ira and Hermleigh athletes will return to Highland on Thursday for the District 13-1A meet. Events are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
