Ira High School graduate Ben Fonville will put on his football pads for one more game.
Fonville was selected to play for the West squad at the Division I Texas 6 Man Coaches Association all-star football game on July 12 in Wichita Falls. The game will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
Fonville was a first-team District 4-1A Division 1 all-district selection at defensive lineman. During his senior year, he recorded 14 tackles, 13 assisted tackles and 9½ tackles for loss. He was a second team all-state selection on the defensive line by the Texas 6 Man Coaches Association.
Borden County teammates Zane Allen and Payton Merket will also play for the West squad, which will be coached by Newcastle’s Julian Menchaca.
Three all-star games are scheduled for July 13, beginning with the girls’ basketball game at noon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on the campus of Midwestern State University. The West squad will be coached by Matthew Hoover of Grandfalls-Royalty while Gorman’s Kristy Sandoval will coach the East.
The boys’ all-star basketball game will follow at 2 p.m. Robert Lee’s Manuel Gamboa will coach the West squad and Chris Langston of Blum will be the East coach.
The Division II all-star football game will be played at 7:30 p.m. July 13 in Memorial Stadium. Austin Flores of Whitharral will coach the West squad and Tommy Tritz of Oakwood will coach the East.
