Hermleigh boys improve to 4-1 with win over Iraan

GARDEN CITY — The Hermleigh Cardinals basketball team flexed its defensive muscle in a 64-8 win over Iraan Thursday.
The win was the Cardinals’ fourth straight win, bringing their record to 4-1.
The Cardinals shutout Iraan in the first quarter and scored 20 points. The Cardinals scored more than 15 points in every quarter but the third, when they scored 12, and held Iraan under five points in every quarter.
As a team, the Cardinals recorded 22 steals and three blocks, effectively shutting down the Iraan offensive attack.
Offensively, senior Kobe Roemisch led the way with 16 points.
The senior also grabbed nine rebounds and recorded three assists and five steals. He has scored at least 10 points in every game this season.
Sophomore Stetson Digby scored a season high 14 points. The big sophomore grabbed eight rebounds and recorded five steals in the win.
Junior Payton Rivera scored 10 points with three steals and sophomore Tyler Thompson scored eight points with six rebounds and a block.
The win was Hermleigh’s third by 30 or more points and its fourth by 20 or more points this season.
The Cardinals will continue play in the tournament against host team Garden City at 4:30 p.m. today.
