The Hermleigh ISD coaching staff could see more shuffling in the next few weeks as Hermleigh ISD superintendent Cassie Petty fills several positions.
Petty said that they are in  the process of interviewing a final few candidates for the head football coach position.
Petty said that the school received roughly 25 applications and they have narrowed those applicants down to five finalists. She said the school hopes to have an announcement as early as the beginning of May.
The Cardinals went 3-7 in 2019 and have failed to reach postseason play since 2015. Third year head coach Sam Winters was re-assigned following the 2019 season.
Also on the to-do list is finding a replacement for head boys basketball coach Kia McCarty, who accepted a head coaching job at Stephenville High School.
Petty said the school is likely to hire from within the coaching staff for that position.
“We feel like we have some good coaches on staff who can step in and fill that role,” she said.
Whoever fills that spot would take over a team than went 17-14 in 2019 and snapped a playoff win drought that spanned 113 years.
