The Hermleigh Junior High School girls’ track and field team won the District 13-1A title on Tuesday at Highland High School.
The Lady Cardinals finished with 196 points while Westbrook finished second with 182.5 points. Ira finished fourth with 54 points.
Hermleigh’s Rylee Teakell and Syndey Hancock won the 100- and 200-meter dashes, respectively, while teammate Destiny Hopkins won the 800- and 1600-meter runs.
Hermleigh’s 400-meter relay team of Hancock, Juli Munoz, Teakell and Steely Collier also finished first, as did the 800-meter relay team of Avery Murray, Munoz, Teakell and Hancock.
The Ira boys finished second in the team standings behind Westbrook. Demitri Juarez won the high jump for the Bulldogs.
Hermleigh finished fifth in the team standings, led by Jace Ellison’s win in the pole vault.
