HERMLEIGH — The Hermleigh Lady Cardinals basketball team closed out 2019 with a win, defeating the Sweetwater Lady Mustangs 47-39 Monday.
Junior Brittany Smith and senior Makia Gonzales combined to score 35 points, leading the Lady Cardinals scoring.
Sweetwater rode an 18-point second quarter to a 28-26 halftime lead before watching the Lady Cardinals take over in the second half. Sweetwater mustered just 11 points in the second half and Hermleigh scored 21.
Monday’s win helped the Lady Cardinals got back on track after losing two of their last three games.
The Lady Cardinals return to action when they host Eula at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
