Lady Tigers bring home hardware from Christmas Classic

BURKBURNETT — Despite falling in the tournament championship game, the Snyder Lady Tigers came home from the Union Bank Christmas Classic at Burkburnett High School with both team and individual accolades.
The Lady Tigers fell to Krum, 43-25 in the championship game Saturday to finish the tournament 3-1.
Snyder defeated Pilot Point, Godley and the hosts, Burkburnett, on its way to the championship game.
The game started as a defensive struggle. In the first quarter, the teams combined for just 14 points, with the Lady Bobcats taking the early 8-6 lead.
Snyder senior Natalee James scored her team’s first four points and junior Melanie Martinez added two points for the Lady Tigers’ six first-quarter points.
The Lady Tigers were shut out in the second quarter while five different Krum players scored.
The Lady Bobcats dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Tigers 12-0 to take a 20-6 halftime lead.
That momentum carried over into the second half for the Lady Bobcats. Calie Marquis scored 10 points, helping Krum to an 18-point third quarter.
Snyder attempted to bounce back from its scoreless second quarter, but managed just six points.
James scored three points and senior Erin Crane added two points.
The Lady Tigers found themselves trailing 38-12 heading into the fourth quarter.
Martinez caught fire in the fourth quarter, sparking the Lady Tiger offense with a pair of 3-pointers on her way to a nine point quarter. Seniors Mayce Herrington and Zalyn Jaramillo combined to add four more points.
But that was all the offense the Lady Tigers could generate and they fell to Krum in the tournament championship game, 43-25.
Snyder’s efforts did not go unrecognized. The Lady Tigers were awarded the Union Bank Christmas Classic runner-up trophy. Senior Natalee James and junior Melanie Martinez both earned All-Tournament honors.
Up next for the Lady Tigers (13-11) is the District 5-4A opener against Big Spring (3-13), which will be in Tiger Gym at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
