Lady Tigers clinch second seed in District 5-4A softball race

Alyssa Hurt’s three-hitter on Friday secured second place in District 5-4A for the Snyder softball team.
Hurt and the Lady Tigers (8-8, 4-3) shut out Midland Greenwood 7-0 on Friday. The Lady Tigers will end the regular season on Tuesday with a 5 p.m. home game against San Angelo Lake View.
Snyder took the lead in the second inning when Maeghan Medrano singled to score Morgan Grant and Adrianna Juarez scored the second run on a Gigi Gutierrez groundout. Later in the inning, Abby Benitez reached on an error allowing Medrano to score and Ciara Galvan scored on a Zowie Rodriguez groundout.
In the third inning, Medrano hit an RBI single to score Juarez and Melyni Garcia, who opened the inning with a double, stole home on a double steal.
With the Lady Tigers leading 6-0, Rodriguez scored the final run of the game when Garcia grounded out in the third inning.
Rodriguez, Gutierrez and Grant each had two hits for Snyder.

The Snyder JV and Greenwood ended in a 5-5 tie on Friday.
Snyder scored two runs in the first inning, but the Rangerettes took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Snyder regained the lead with two runs in the second and one run in the third. 
Greenwood tied the game in the bottom of third inning and the game was called.
Stormie Becerra led the Snyder offense with three hits, including a home run.
