Snyder met all challenges during the second half Friday to defeat Big Spring, 50-39, for its first District 2-4A win.
The Lady Tigers took the lead for good late in the third quarter. With the game tied at 30-30, Alize Conner and Alyssa Molinar made 3-pointers to give Snyder a 36-30 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
“I’m proud how these players played,” Snyder head coach Brad Weese said. “They’ve come a long way. The icing on the cake was getting the first win. The players have developed trust in each other and are playing at a higher level.”
Bailey Garcia led Snyder with 14 points. Conner had 12 points and Molinar added 11 points. Kirsti Pierce had 10 points.
“Molinar hit two 3-pointers and we got scoring from five players, not just three scorers like previous games,” Weese said. “That made a big difference in the game.”
Snyder lead 12-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Steers tied the game twice before Mayes, who finished with 12 points, made a field goal to give Big Spring an 18-16 lead. Molinar answered with a 3-pointer to give Snyder a 19-18 halftime lead.
Snyder’s largest lead was four points in the third quarter and the game was tied four times. The Lady Tigers finished the quarter on a 6-0 run.
Conner’s 3-pointer midway through the fourth quarter gave Snyder a 43-34 lead. Snyder led by as many as 13 points in the quarter.
“Alize was diving for loose balls and Molinar was in the right places,” Weese said. “We had players exhausted, but they gave a great effort. Pierce and Michelle Rios played well.”
The Lady Tigers (3-24, 1-8) will conclude the season at Levelland Tuesday.
