Lady Tigers drop tournament opener to Coahoma

The Snyder Lady Tigers lost to Coahoma 52-43 in the quarterfinals of the Stanton Hoopstown Basketball Classic Thursday.
Snyder led 9-8 at the end of the first quarter, but trailed 25-16 at halftime. Both teams scored 27 points in the second half.
Nicole Martinez finished with 14 points while Kirsti Pierce added eight points.
Snyder (1-13) was scheduled to play the Colorado City JV in the consolation quarterfinals at noon today.

ANDREWS — The Snyder Tigers lost to Grady 37-30 in pool play at the Gym Bice Classic.
Grady built a 12-7 lead by the end of the first quarter and increased the advantage to 25-16 by halftime. Snyder cut Grady’s lead to 28-20 going into the fourth quarter.
Kalen Cowley, who made two 3-pointers, scored 10 points. Chris Dickinson had eight points.
“We held them to 12 points in the second half,” Snyder head coach Lee Scott said. “I’m proud of our defense. Anytime you hold somebody under 40 points you should win the game. But we have to be able to put the ball in the basket.”
Snyder (3-7) was scheduled to play two pool games today — El Paso Riverside at 2 p.m. and Shallowater at 8 p.m.
The Tigers will play one game Saturday.

Ira Boys
ROSCOE — The Ira Bulldogs (2-5) will play Roscoe at 5:45 p.m. today in the quarterfinals of the Backland Divide Invitational.
The game was scheduled Thursday, but was postponed due to weather conditions.
The winner of the game will play in the semifinals at 10:15 a.m. Saturday against the Guthrie-Coleman winner. The loser will play in the consolation semifinals at 8:15 p.m. today.
SJHS Tournament
The Snyder seventh grade A basketball team defeated Andrews 36-30 at the Snyder seventh grade tournament Thursday.
Sylas Castillo scored 10 points while Mason Cobb added six points.
Snyder will play Wall at 10:15 a.m. Saturday.

Eighth Grade
The Snyder eighth grade A team defeated Wall 31-15 at the eighth grade tournament.
Christian Escobedo scored eight points and Michael Jaramillo had seven points.
Snyder will play Christoval at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
In the other tournament game, Hamlin defeated Wall 43-35 in overtime.

The Ira Lady Bulldogs (13-1) will play Midland Trinity at 6 p.m. today in a non-district game.
At Hermleigh, the Lady Cardinals (12-0) were scheduled to meet Jayton at 4:30 p.m. The Cardinals and Jayton will meet at 6 p.m.
