MIDLAND – It was a solid day at the office for the Snyder Lady Tiger softball team, with wins over Palo Duro and Presidio on the second day of the Midland softball tournament.
Meagan Fletcher continued her big week with a five-RBI performance against Palo Duro. Fletcher hit doubles in the first, second and third innings and the Lady Tigers rode an 8-strikeout performance from Alyssa Hurt to a 14-0 run rule victory.
Abby Benitez also had a three-hit game, recording a triple, double and scoring three runs. Illeana Madrid had a triple and A.J. Juarez and G.G. Gutierrez both hit doubles.
In the day’s second game, Snyder faced Presidio and rode another solid pitching performance to a 4-3 victory.
Chloee Gutierrez was lights out on the mound, striking out 10 batters and allowing just 3 runs in 6 innings.
Snyder scored on a first-inning double from Hurt that allowed Benitez to score. Presidio responded by stealing home home in the bottom of the inning, tying the game at 1-1.
The Lady Tigers scored three runs in the third inning. Benitez and Fletcher each scored on wild pitches and G.G. Gutierrez hit an RBI single to score Hurt. Presidio battled back with two runs in the bottom of the third, but Gutierrez shut the door from there. She struck out six batters over the final three innings and allowed just one hit as Snyder sealed the 4-3 win.
The Lady Tigers are 5-5 on the season and hope to leave the tournament with a winning record. Snyder will travel to Lamesa for a game at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
