Big first and third quarters powered the Snyder Lady Tigers to a 50-34 win over the Godley Lady Wildcats Thursday.
It was the Lady Tigers’ (11-10) opening game of the Lady Bulldog Christmas Classic at Burkburnett High School.
Snyder used a big first quarter to grab the early lead, outscoring the Lady Wildcats 16-4. Junior Kamiah Davis’ two 3-pointers led the way. Senior Natalee James connected on a 3-pointer as well and sophomore Abby Benitez, junior Melanie Martinez and junior Hayley Humphrey all scored their first points.
Snyder’s offense slowed in the second quarter however, and the Lady Wildcats battled their way back into the game.
Godley sophomore Reagan Maxwell went 3-3 from the free throw line and scored seven points to power her team to a 13-point second quarter.
Davis scored three more points for Snyder and Benitez and Humphrey teamed up for four points to keep the Lady Tigers ahead and the Lady Wildcats still found themselves trailing at the half, 23-17.
Snyder’s offense made halftime adjustments and put up its biggest quarter of the game in the third quarter.
Davis hit another 3-pointer on her way to five points, Benitez made both of her two free throws and senior Zalyn Jaramillo scored her first five points to contribute to an 18-point quarter. Defensively, the Lady Tigers held Godley to just seven points, the majority of which came on a 3-pointer from junior Hanna Robertson.
Snyder took a commanding 41-24 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Wildcats managed to outscore Snyder, 10-9, but Snyders’ lead was too much for them to overcome.
Benitez and James combined to go 3-8 from the free throw line and Jaramillo and Humphrey each added two points as Snyder closed out the 50-34 win.
