Snyder High School is now represented in the Texas Tech athletics Hall of Fame as 1995 Snyder graduate Brooke Lowrance was named as a member of the 2020 class.
Lowrance is one of seven members of the 2020 class, alongside D’Andra Carter, Michael Crabtree, Graham Harrell, Chris Martin, Ronald Ross and Jason Totman.
When she was told of her induction, Lowrance said she couldn’t help but smile.
“I think my heart stopped for a moment” Lowrance said. “I think I was smiling from ear to ear. For me, it’s very humbling. I am proud of my accomplishments and it is very special to be standing next to some really fantastic athletes.”
Lowrance, a 2016 inductee into the Snyder Athletic Hall of Honor, is the first athlete from Snyder to be inducted into the Tech Hall of Fame and just the second female golfer in Tech history to receive the honor.
As a freshman, she played a role in the Red Raiders 12th place finish at the NCAA Championships.
The Red Raiders reached the Regional round of the NCAA championships three times during her collegiate career and she finished her career as the school’s all-time leader for lowest stroke average (77.0).
She was twice All-Big-12 and was an All-American honorable mention as a junior.
“I had a great coach in Jack Mitchell and I had great supporting teammates,” she said. “I am very proud to have been a part of that building block into what Texas Tech women’s golf is today. They’re led by a great coach in JoJo Robertson and she has built a really strong program there.”
Before going to Lubbock, Lowrance was a standout for the Snyder golf program.
She was a district medalist all four years of her high school career and qualified for the state championships twice, finishing as high as third in 1995. As a senior, Lowrance led the Lady Tigers golf team to a third place finish at the state championship.
“I look at Snyder as being the foundation of my golf game,” she said.
“I had a great golf coach there in Matt Glenn and as a young golfer in high school, we accomplished a lot of things. Snyder has two great golf facilities that allowed me the ability to practice.”
Lowrance also said her parents were a big influence on her golf career.
“I want to thank my parents for opening every door for me,” she said. “They always believed in me.”
According to a press release from Texas Tech University, the school has not set an induction date due to COVID-19 complications, but the department will announce plans for an induction in the fall.
