Oshiro finishes second at NJCAA golf tournament

Western Texas College’s Kiana Oshiro finished second at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) women’s golf tournament on Thursday.
Oshiro shot a three-round 221 and moved up to second place on the final day of the tournament. She was third after the first and second rounds. 
The tournament was shortened to three days due to the first day being canceled by weather conditions at the LPGA International Hills Course in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Oshiro finished eight shots behind national champion Worapitcha Anndt (213) of Seminole State.
As a team, the Lady Westerners finished third at 954. Seminole State (Fla.) won the national title with a 900 followed by Daytona State College at 923.
Josephine Bertelsen finished ninth in the individual standings with a score of 234. Inma Ortiz Prieto was 20th with a 246 while teammates Riley Grunewald (254) and Hijke Pretorius (266) were 33rd and 45th, respectively.
Men’s Golf
The men’s  golf team rebounded in the third round of the national tournament on Thursday. 
The Westerners shot a 289 Thursday, one day after posting a 309, and are tied for 13th place heading into today’s final round at Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Fla.
WTC, which was 16th after two rounds, and McLennan Community College have both shot 888 through three rounds. 
Indian Hills Community College leads the tournament with an 835.
Snyder’s Jake Leatherwood shot a 69 on Thursday and moved up from 56th place to 32nd place with a three-round 218. 
Nico Kyprian is in 54th place at 222 and Michael Weppering is 66th with a 225. Jay Hitt (227) and Brannon McCabe (250) are 75th and 118th, respectively.
Track
Five athletes and two relay teams qualified for the finals during Thursday’s preliminary races at the NJCAA track and field national meet at New Mexico Junior College.
Satanya Wright (54.74 seconds) and Mariya Hudson (54.82 seconds) moved into the finals in the 400-meter dash with the top two preliminary times.
Keiara-Ashley Cunningham qualified in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05, which was eighth in the preliminaries.
The women’s 400-meter relay team of Brittney Johnson, Hudson, Shikyla Walcott and Wright recorded the fastest time in the preliminaries at 45.72 seconds. They will compete in the finals on Saturday.
Khamal Stewart-Barnes qualified for the men’s 400-meter finals with a time of 47.18 seconds, which was the third fastest time of the preliminaries. Donald Rolle did not qualify in the event, finishing with a time of 55.78 seconds.
The men’s 400-meter relay team qualified for the finals with the third-best preliminary time. Andre Edwards, Stewart-Barnes, Andel Miller and Emmanuel Yeboah were clocked at 39.82 seconds.
The men’s 3200-meter relay team of Reginald Mouton, Jesus Mata, Evan Reyes and Rayon Buttler finished fourth with a time of 7:46.
