Ropes defeats Ira in non-district game

ROPESVILLE — The Ira Bulldogs lost to Ropes 34-18 in a non-district football game Friday.

Adam Salas gave Ropes a 6-0 lead with a 26-yard touchdown run with 7:23 left in the first quarter.

Ira tied the game at 6-6 when Karson Valentine completed a 42-yard touchdown pass to Matthew Brazil.

Ropes scored two touchdowns later in the quarter. Salas caught a 43-yard touchdown pass and Zack Randall caught an 11-yard touchdown pass, both from Kaiston Terry. The Eagles led 20-6 going into the second quarter.

Terry completed a 24-yard touchdown pass to Salas to increase Ropes’ lead to 26-6 with 2:07 left in the first half.

Valentine’s 26-yard touchdown run cut the deficit to 26-12 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Salas scored on a 20-yard touchdown run to give Ropes a 32-12 lead. Valentine completed a 21-yard touchdown pass to Kade Sanders with 8:17 left in the game. The Ropes’ defense recorded a safety later in the quarter.

Valentine led Ira’s offense with 145 yards rushing and one touchdown. He completed 9-of-13 passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Sanders caught five passes for 67 yards and one touchdown.

On defense, Valentine had 11 tackles and Anthony Coy had 4½ tackles, followed by Brazil with four tackles.

Ira (3-2) will play at Ackerly Sands Friday.

HERMLEIGH — The Hernleigh Cardinals lost to Sterling City, 54-40.

Devin Hildebrand rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns while Payton Rivera ran for one touchdown.

Hildebrand complete 6-of-12 passes for 97 yards and two touchdowns.

Richie Clement completed 4-of-6 passes for 60 yards and two touchdowns.

Tucker Barton, Kelton Carroll, Matt Gonzales and Blake Hancock each caught a touchdown pass. Barton had three catches for 53 yards while Carroll caught three passes for 47 yards. Rivera led the defense with 13 tackles.

Hermleigh (3-2) will play at Meadow Friday.
