Seminole rallied for three runs in the sixth inning to defeat Snyder 10-7 at the Best of the West Baseball Tournament Friday.

The Indians loaded the bases with no outs and took the lead when a batter was hit by a pitch and added two insurance runs later in the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, Snyder had runners on first and second with one out, but a double play ended the game.

Brody Jasso hit a line drive caught in the outfield and Paul Velasquez, who was running on the hit, was thrown out returning to second base to end the game.

“We kept coming back and competing,” Snyder head coach Shane Stewart said. “We fought back and the game went back and forth. If the Seminole player doesn’t make the diving catch, we are right back in the game. It was a game of inches.”

The Tigers scored one run in the first inning when Jarrett Reneau scored while Matt Bass was in a rundown.

Seminole took a 2-1 lead in the third, but Snyder scored three runs in the fourth.

Aaron Escobedo hit a 2-run single and later scored when Colton Lee got in a rundown between first and second.

The Tigers led 4-2 going into the fifth inning when 11 Seminole batters went to the plate in a 5-run inning.

Snyder tied the game at 7-7 in the bottom of the fifth on a 2-run single by Bass and Davis scored on an error.

“Both teams hit the baseball well,” Stewart said. “Seminole earned most of its runs, but we made a few bad plays on defense. When a team hits the baseball, they will score. We answered them for most of the game.”

Stewart said he was proud of his team coming back when trailing before Seminole put the game away.

“I’m proud of how we competed, even through it didn’t work out for us,” Stewart said. “Seminole loaded the bases in the sixth and we got three ground balls that went through the infield. The ball went well for Seminole and we hit some balls well right at them.”

Snyder (5-6) was scheduled to play Idalou at 7 p.m. today.

“l’m not disappointed with the way we played overall,” Stewart said. “We need to come back and compete. One of the good things about a tournament is a team can come back and compete again the next day.”
