Silva qualifies for state meet with first place finish in Sundown

SUNDOWN — Snyder’s Reyes Silva qualified for the state powerlifting meet after winning his weight class at the Region 1 Division 2 Regional Meet in Sundown Friday.
Silva, alongside four of his teammates, made the trip and competed for a spot at the state meet.
Silva won the 220-pound weight class by 10 pounds, beating Perryton’s Robert Herndon 1,625 to 1,615. Silva led his class in the squat with a 740-pound lift and tied with Herndon with 550 pounds on the deadlift.
Both Johnny Jamison and Dylan Rodriguez just missed qualifying for the state meet, finishing third in their respective classes.
Jamison lifted a total of 1,010 pounds in the 132-pound weight class and Rodriguez, competing in the 181-pound weight class, lifted 1,275 pounds.
The state meet may be re-scheduled due to the UIL shutdown and The Snyder News will post an update once it becomes available.
