Snyder athletes will seek Region 1-4A berths at Thursday’s Class 4A area track and field meet at Capital Bank Park in Lubbock.
The Tigers and other qualifiers from District 2-4A will compete against Pampa, Borger, Perryton and Bushland athletes.
Sprinter Zach Deere and hurdlers Abram Smith, Jarrett Reneau and Anthony Torres were among Snyder’s qualifiers. Deere won the 100- and 200-meter dashes at the district meet. Smith, Reneau and Torres finished one-two-three in the 110-meter hurdles. Reneau and Torres were second and third, respectively, in the 300-meter hurdles.
“We have a good shot in the sprints and hurdles,” Snyder head coach Andrew Roy said. “We have two hurdlers who could qualify in the 300-meter hurdles. I expect Zach to do well in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.”
Roy said the 400-meter relay team (Taylor Munkes, Deere, Torres and Jose Juarez) also could earn a regional berth.
“We had a good workout on Monday and concentrated on handoffs and starts Tuesday,” he said. “I’m pleased with the athletes who qualified and look for good results at the area meet. We hope to keep it going.”
Thirteen Lady Tigers qualified for the area meet. Keely Bartels won the 100-meter hurdles at the district meet and finished second in the 300-meter hurdles. Bailey Garcia is expected to be among the contenders in the triple jump. Snyder will also participate in the relays.
