Due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Scurry County, coupled with the loss of coaches and players, Snyder Little League has canceled its 2020 season.
It is the second youth sports program in Scurry County to cancel its season. Snyder Fastpitch cancelled its season in early May.
“We have outweighed our options back and forth on the safety of our kids/coaches and have tried to come up with so many ideas on how we would be able to continue with the ones that still wanted to play but it was just too late in the season to complete teams, re-draft and other multiple reasons,” the league wrote in a social media post. “We understand that this decision may cause a lot of friction but at the end of the day our main priority is the safety of our community.”
Little League cancelled all playoffs nationwide in May, so the local league was working on organizing a regular season schedule.
League organizers also wrote in the post that they will be issuing refunds in the coming weeks.
“Everyone will be getting refunded but please allow us time to get everything situated on how we will be doing so in a safe manner,” they wrote.
