Aythen Tarin and Dominic Dominguez combined to pitch a perfect game as the Snyder Major League all-star team defeated Sweetwater 12-0 in a District 5 Little League Tournament pool game at Logan Field Monday.
Snyder finished pool play 2-0 and will wait to find out its opponents for the tournament, which begins this weekend.
Tarin stuck out three of the eight batters he faced in 2.2 innings while Dominguez struck out four batters in 1.1 innings.
“It’s always good when you use two different pitchers and get the same outcome,” Snyder manager Johnny Pena said referring to using two pitchers for the second straight game. “This is what the pool games do, shows where our pitching is. I want it to be hard to determine who will be our starting pitcher every game. All four pitchers in the two games performed well. It’s a good problem to have when you have to think about who will pitch.”
Snyder built an 8-0 lead by scoring three runs in the first inning and five runs in the second.
Dominguez and Ryder Garcia hit back-to-back triples with two outs in the first inning to put Snyder on the board. Easton Stewart added an RBI single and later scored on Mateo Hernandez’ RBI single to increase the lead to 3-0.
Kaden Castillo, Dominguez and Jerek Pena highlighted the second inning with RBI singles.
“Everyone thinks I am crazy for letting the other team be home,” Johnny Pena said. “I know how good our bats are and want to jump on them at the beginning of the game. It makes it easier for our pitchers to relax.”
Snyder scored four runs in the fourth inning as Garcia, Stewart and Tarin hit RBI singles.
“I like our chances for the top seed with our performances in the two games,” Pena said. “Snyder will host two games Sunday and we hope to be in one of the games.”
The bracket is expected to be released Wednesday.
“We want to keep fresh and our focus going,” Pena said. “There are few things we can pinpoint to the players that need work. It’s good when that happens.”
