Spencer wins bull riding title at WTC rodeo

Western Texas College’s Jacob Spencer won the bull riding title at the National Intercollegiate Athletic Association rodeo at The Coliseum on Saturday.
Spencer’s finish helped WTC claim fifth place in the team standings. The Lady Westerners also finished fifth.
Three athletes finished in the top 10 in bareback riding — Evan Miller, fifth; Zach Hibler, sixth; and Tim Murphy, eighth.
McKenzie McAngus finished tied for sixth place in breakaway roping. McKayla Lucus recorded a first-round time of 13.94 seconds in barrel racing.
TRACK AND FIELD
AUSTIN — The WTC women’s 1600-meter relay team set a school record at the Texas Relays this weekend.
Rene Medley, Stephanie Hale, Sasha Smith-Pollard and Cameka Witter finished seventh overall with a time of 4:02.76.
The men’s 1600-meter relay team of Rhayko Schwartz, Jason Yaw, Robin Black and Rajay Hamilton had the fastest time among National Junior College Athletic Association teams at 3:08.69. The team finished eighth in the event.
Brittany Duncan had the third fastest time among junior college athletes in the 400-meter hurdles at 60.69.
Ian Kerr ran a 10.41 in the 100-meter dash and finished eighth. The time was the third fastest among junior college athletes in the nation this season.
Two members of the team competed at Texas State University on Saturday. Travis Riley was third in the triple jump with a distance of 49-5. That is the sixth best in the nation this season. Sean Washington, who finished 10th in the 800-meter run, had the fifth fastest time in the nation at 1:53.45.
SOFTBALL
The WTC softball team won one of four conference games against Odessa College over the weekend.
WTC lost two games at Odessa on Saturday, 5-3 and 17-2. The Lady Westerners defeated Odessa 10-9 in 10 innings on Sunday at United Field, but lost the second game 11-1.
