Ten players, coach named to all-district team

The Snyder Lady Tigers continued their dominance of District 2-4A in 2016.
Snyder claimed three of the five individual awards and placed five players on the all-district first team and two on the second team.
The Lady Tigers, which finished the district season undefeated, advanced to the Region 1-4A championship series under first-year head coach Liz Kimbell, who was named the district’s coach of the year.
Junior Claudia Gutierrez was named the district’s most valuable player award. Cholee James was named the most valuable pitcher and Hailey Morris was named the defensive most valuable player.
Gutierrez had a .464 batting with nine doubles, eight triples, seven home runs, 44 RBIs and 25 stolen bases.
Morris, who made the transition from third base to shortstop, and had a .931 fielding percentage. She had a .616 batting average, 30 doubles, five triples, 11 home runs, 56 RBIs and 25 stolen bases.
James moved into the No. 1 pitching role late in the non-district season. She was the winning pitcher in all 10 district games and had a 22-8 season record. James allowed 207 hits and struck out 135 while compiling a 3.88 ERA.
First team selections were catcher Jasmine Montoya, infielders Shayde Millican and Nicole Clark and outfielders Megan Leatherwood and Cailey Coy.
Montoya had a .423 batting average with 11 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 16 stolen bases.
Millican had a .411 batting average with 15 doubles, three triples, two home runs, 29 RBIs and 22 stolen bases. Clark had a .383 batting average with one home run and 19 RBIs.
Leatherwood had a .413 batting average with 22 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 29 RBIs and 13 stolen bases. Coy had a .358 average with one home run and 21 RBIs.
Outfielder Bailey Garcia and designated player Alyssa Benitez were named to the second team. Garcia had a .351 batting average with nine doubles, one triple, three home runs, 19 RBIs and 13 stolen bases.
Benitez had a .359 batting average with two doubles and six RBIs.
