Snyder didn’t finish its non-district basketball schedule as planned, but head coach Lee Scott said the team may benefit from Monday’s 70-48 loss to Frenship at Tiger Gym.
“Our non-district record was good and it is the most wins we have had since I came back to coach,” Lee said. “It won’t affect how we do in district. All that matters is how many district wins we get. It helped playing a team like Frenship. It showed us where we need to be.”
Alonzo Wesley and Jayden Samaniego each scored 16 points for Snyder. Teafale Lenard added 10 points.
Javier Rios led Frenship with 17 points while Calaway Dykes and Jordan Palmer scored 15 and 10 points, respectively.
The game was tied 11-11 after the first quarter and Frenship pulled away with a 24-7 scoring edge in the second quarter to build a 35-17 halftime lead. Snyder trailed 57-30 going into the fourth quarter.
“Frenship is a good team and made us do things we normally don’t do,” Scott said. “They put a lot of pressure on us. We played well in the first quarter. Frenship went on the run in the second quarter when we didn’t step up our play.”
Lee said the team didn’t practice Saturday, but did not use that as an excuse.
“We took Saturday off because we will practice on Saturdays for the remainder of the season,” he said. “We didn’t prepare like we wanted to, but that is not an excuse. They played more physical than we did and it showed.”
Scott said the non-district schedule help prepared his team for district.
“We used all of our games to prepare,” he said. “It was good because Frenship changed its defense. We could face that in district and must recognize it without calling a timeout.”
The Tigers (18-6) will open the District 5-4A schedule at Sweetwater Friday.
