SAN ANGELO — The Snyder Tigers overcame a slow start to defeat San Angelo Lake View 69-39 in a non-district basketball game Monday.
Snyder trailed 13-7 after the first quarter, but outscored the Chiefs 17-6 in the second quarter to take a 24-19 halftime lead. The Tigers used a 27-10 scoring edge in the third quarter to build a 51-29 lead.
Alonzo Wesley scored a game-high 20 points while Christian Gaona added 17 points.
“We came out in the second half and knocked down shots and shut them down,” Snyder head coach Lee Scott said. “We continued to make shots and defended in the fourth quarter to increase the lead. Once we got going, we played well. We have to get rid of the slow starts, but overall I’m happy with the way we played.”
On Saturday, Snyder defeated Lamesa 55-50 and lost to Andrews 60-54 at the Gym Bice Tournament in Andrews.
Wesley had 21 points against Lamesa while Kendrick scored 12 points.
“We slowed them down and they couldn’t get fast breaks or drive on us,” Scott said. “We did a good job against Lamesa’s full-court press and ran our offense well.”
Gaona scored 16 points in the loss to Andrews and Wesley added 14 points.
“We took an early lead and got up by 18 points in the first half,” Scott said. “We got in foul trouble and turned it over three times in a row at the end of the second quarter. We continued to fight and played hard, but we had too many turnovers at the end of the game.”
Snyder (9-7) will host Monahans Friday.

The Snyder JV beat Lake View, 46-27.
“It was sloppy at times, but a good win,” coach Cameron Lowman said.
Christian Zapata and Ryan Rodriguez each scored 11 points.
Last week, Snyder won one of four games at the Gym Bice Tournament.
The Tigers lost to Brownfield 59-47 Thursday. Christian Escobedo had 19 points and Kobe Roemisch added 12 points. Eli Garcia scored 14 points and Chrisrian Zapata had 13 points in a 45-40 loss to Denver City.
On Friday, Snyder defeated Andrews, 57-41. Ryan Rodriguez scored a game-high 28 points. Zapata had 11 points and Roemnisch added 10.
The Tigers lost to Shallowater 53-49 on Saturday. Roemisch scored 13 points and Rodriguez had 11 points.
