Time is running out for Snyder ISD athletes to get physicals and complete online medical history forms.
All athletes must have a physical and complete the forms before they may begin practice.
Incoming seventh grade students and freshmen, third-year students and all new students planning to participate in athletics must have a physical.
The school district will pay for the physical through Friday. Appointments may be scheduled by calling Cogdell Family Clinic at 573-1300.
“We don’t have a lot of football players who are completely cleared yet to practice Monday,” Snyder Athletic Director Cory Mandrell said. “It is not just the physicals, but the online forms (medical history) on arbiterathlete.com. Anyone with questions on how to complete it may call Rhonda (Ward) at 574-8830 or come to the athletic office. She can walk them through the process.”
Mandrell said the form can be completed within 15 minutes and it must be signed by the athlete and parent/guardian.
Precautions also are being put in place to protect athletes from the heat.
Snyder ISD athletic trainer Alex Marsh said hydration, even before practice, is important.
“The strength and conditioning camp was helpful and helped athletes to be in good physical condition,” Marsh said. “Athletes need to drink a lot of water throughout the day before practice.”
Marsh said water and other liquids will be available at practice.
“We will have ice towels available, water and other liquids for athletes who overheat,” she said. “It also will help if athletes eat their meals.”
Snyder’s opening football practice will start at 7 p.m. Monday. Mandrell said the remaining practices during the first week will begin around 4 p.m. or 5 p.m.
“We decided on a night practice because the first day is always hectic with in-service training,” he said. “This should make the first practice smoother.”
