Baseball
Western Texas College (WTC) baseball players, sophomore utility player Elliot Ranson and sophomore catcher Jonathan LaCourse, were selected to the Junior College baseball all-star game last week.
Both players are in their second season at WTC and look poised to be leaders for the Westerners once the regular season begins.
Last season, Ranson, a Houston native, hit .325 with 10 doubles in 39 games with an on-base percentage of .423.
In 44 games last season, LaCourse hit .286, with two home runs and six doubles. He also threw out 12 baserunners.
LaCourse, a San Antonio native, allowed only eight passed balls in his 44 games played.
Soccer
The WTC men’s soccer team defeated Angelina College 1-0 Sunday in Lufkin. The win snapped a two-match losing streak for the Westerners.
The men finished the month of September 3-3.
The women’s soccer team fell to Angelina College 4-2. Both sophomore Iveth Guzman and freshman Brianna Guerrero scored for the Lady Westerners.
Guzman, a native of Mission, scored her fourth goal of the season and Guerrero scored her third.
The Lady Westerners will host Cisco College on Wednesday in search of their first win of the 2019 season.
