For the first time, Texas high schools will be allowed to broadcast or live-stream high school football games with video.

The University Interscholastic League (UIL) voted to suspend its ban on video broadcasts of high school football games due to concerns about fan attendance for the 2020 season. The suspension of the rule will only apply to the 2020 season.

In a statement released Wednesday, the UIL said that it is committed to a full season with fans in attendance, but recognizes that not everyone will attend the games due to COVID-19 concerns.

When contacted Thursday, local schools had not made any plans for video broadcasts.
