Velasquez, Price qualify for state golf tournaments

Two Scurry County golfers qualified for their respective state tournaments on Tuesday.
Snyder’s Cylie Velasquez qualified for the Class 4A tournament and Ira’s Meaghan Price qualified for the Class 1A state tournament.
Region 1-4A Girls
Velasquez finished ninth with a two-day total 159 and will join Mallory Garcia of Brownwood and Allee Mainord of Stephenville as medalists at the state tournament scheduled for May 13-14 at Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle.
As a team, the Snyder varsity finished fourth with a team total of 655, trailing only Andrews (611), Monahans (638) and Argyle 1 (652). The Snyder JV finished sixth with a team score of 734.
AmyAnn Villanueva had the second lowest score for the varsity with a two-round 160, which placed her in a tie for 10th place. Jalia Williams and Laura Ortegon finished in a tie for 20th place at 169 and Tyleigh Price was 27th with a 172.
Jordyn Stewart had the lowest score for the JV squad with a 180, which placed her 35th. 
Brailynn Garcia finished 40th with a 184 followed by Abby Alvarado in 45th with a 186. Kalysa Burleson was 48th with a 187 and Erin Crane finished 54th with a 191.
Region 1-2A Girls
Ira’s Teaghan Price finished fourth at the Region 2-1A golf tournament. Tournament officials canceled today’s final round at San Angelo’s Bentwood Country Club due to weather conditions.
Price shot a 95 to qualify for the state tournament, which will be held May 13-14 at the Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin.
As a team, Ira finished fourth with a 457, 30 shots behind Munday and Motley County, which finished in a tie for third place. Robert Lee won the regional title with a 417.
Ryleigh Stewart finished 23rd for the Lady Bulldogs with a 117 while Victoria Winkler was 28th with a 122. Grace Highfield was 32nd at 123.
Hermleigh’s Morgan Kariainen finished in 46th place with a 132.
Region 1-2A Boys
Ira’s Drew Porter finished 11th at the Region 2-1A golf tournament.
Porter shot an 86 on Tuesday and finished one shot out of the top 10.
Today’s final round at the Quicksand Golf Course was canceled due to weather conditions.
