Westerners remain undefeated with win over Strength in Motion

The Western Texas College Westerners remained undefeated with a 105-72 win over Strength in Motion International Post Grad at the Westerner Classic men’s basketball tournament at The Coliseum Friday.

Five players, led by JaRian Spells and Nigel Allen with 15 points each, scored in double figures for WTC, which improved to 4-0. Demarcus Hatfield scored 14 points, Jordon Fullerton had 11 and Miles McDougal finished with 10 for the Westerners.

Strength in Motion had three players score in double figures, led by Noe Lopez with 13 points.

The Westerners played well on both ends of the court, shooting 53 percent from the field while limiting Strength in Motion to a 35 percent field goal percentage.

Defensively, Ja’Niro Lane had seven rebounds and McDougal had three steals for WTC, which returns to action at the Classic today against Seminole State College of Oklahoma. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at The Coliseum.

Women

ODESSA — The Western Texas College Lady Westerners lost to Arizona Western College 59-49 at the Odessa College Basketball Tournament Thursday.

WTC led 10-8 after the opening quarter. Arizona Western tied the game at 26-26 by halftime. The Lady Westerners trailed 44-42 going into the fourth quarter.

Catara Samuel scored 15 points and had three assists while Mayra Garcia had 10 points and eight rebounds.

WTC (2-2) was scheduled to play Coastal Bend College at noon today.
