Western Texas College coaches have been busy on the recruiting trail.
The men’s basketball team added two more recruits to the 2020-21 team.
Nakavieon White, a forward from Odessa Permian High School, led the Panthers in scoring in 2020, helping his team to the regional round of playoffs before falling to future teammate Ja’Bryant Hill and the Duncanville Panthers.
Also headed to Snyder is Lukas Croft, a six-foot-five guard who spent his freshman season at Division I Ball State University. A native of Fort Wayne, Ind., Kroft was rated as one of the top 20 players in Indiana his senior season. Kroft saw action in 14 games for the Cardinals, with his best performance coming in a six-point game against Defiance University.
Kroft and White bring the Westerners’ current recruiting class to three.
Women’s basketball coach Darryl Davis also added two new players to his roster.
The Lady Westerners will welcome six-foot-one center Kaliyah Montoya of Carlsbad, N.M. to Snyder. Montoya was a big part of the Carlsbad Lady Cavemen who went 23-7 en route to an appearance in the New Mexico state tournament.
Alyssia Thorne of Tyler Lee High School is also Snyder bound. At five-foot-ten, Thorne can play a number of positions, but is listed as a forward. She averaged 10 points per game for the Lee Raiders, playing a role in the team’s 28-7 season.
The WTC track team added Jaime Hernandez of Edcouch-Elsa High School. Hernandez finished his high school career as a two-time regional qualifier and qualified for the 5A state cross country championships in 2020.
