The No. 16 Western Texas College men’s basketball team won both of its games in the WTC Classic Friday and Saturday and remains undefeated in 2019.
On Friday, the Westerners rode a 21-point performance from freshman point guard C.J. Smith to a 78-66 win over Angelina College.
Sophomores Donavan Reagan and Tafari Simms both recorded double-doubles. Simms scored 13 points with 10 rebounds and Reagan pulled down 11 rebounds and scored 11 points.
WTC edged McLennan Community College on Saturday, 81-80, to finish the weekend. Sophomore Darius Mickens and Smith combined to score 41 of the Westerners’ 81 points, helping pull out a win that head coach Kyle Cooper called a “gut check” for his team.
Freshmen Ben Smith and Jaylen O’Conner and sophomore Reagan all finished with double digit points.
The Westerners will host Loyalty Prep at 7 p.m. Wednesday at The Coliseum.
