WTC women in third place at NJCAA golf tournament

The Western Texas College women’s golf team entered today’s second round of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) tournament in third place.
WTC shot 319 on the first day at the LPJA International Hills Course in Daytona Beach, Fla. The tournament was shortened to three rounds after rain canceled Monday’s opening round.
Seminole State (Fla.) leads the 19-team field at 300, followed by Daytona State College at 309. McLennan Community College (322) trails WTC by three shots.
Kiana Oshiro had the best round for the Lady Westerners with a 74, which put her in third place behind Seminole State’s Woraoitcha Anndit (70) and Sophia Warren (73).
WTC’s Inma Ortiz Prieto was tied for 20th at 81 while her teammates Josephine Bertelsen and Riley Grunewald were tied for 24th at 82. Hijke Pretorius was tied for 29th at 84.
Men’s Golf
The men’s  golf team finished the first round of the NJCAA tournament in 11th place with a 290.
WTC is three shots behind Iowa Western Community College and Wallace State Community College entering today’s second round at Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Fla. New Mexico Junior College held the first round lead with a 277.
Michael Wepperning shot 69 to lead WTC. He entered the second round tied for sixth place. Nico Kyprian was tied for 20th at 71 while Jake Leatherwood and Jay Hitt shot 75, which tied them for 69th overall. Brannon McCabe finished the first round in 122nd place with a 90.
Softball
Nathalie Blattman and Kristina O’Banion were honorable mention selections on the Western Junior College Athletic Conference all-conference team.
Blattman finished with a 12-12 record with one save.She had a 5.22 earned run average and recorded 48 strikeouts in 138 innings.
O’Banion led WTC with a .392 batting average this season with 17 doubles, 37 RBIs and six stolen bases.
