As stated before, the City of Snyder has hired Jacob and Martin, LLC, to analyze the current road conditions of Snyder.
Evaluating the types of streets, Jacob and Martin categorized the recommendations needed for each process as follows:
• Surface sealing is using asphalt to seal cracks less than one-eighth of an inch.
• Crack sealing is using a modified asphalt material which will be inserted into the crack ranging from three-16ths to ½ of an inch wide.
• Seal coating is using a hot asphalt material which will cover the roadway. Afterwards, a layer of aggregate is placed over the asphalt.
• Bomag hot mixing is removing or grounding up the existing asphalt and blending it with the existing base material. This process is only used if the compromised road has a solid base material.
• Rebuild seal coating is removing the existing surface along with its base and replacing it with a new base and seal coating the surface.
• Rebuild hot mixing is removing the existing surface along with the base and replacing it with a new base and seal coating with a hot mix surface.
• Rebuilding concrete is removing the existing surface along with its base and replacing it with a new base and a concrete surface.
Currently there are approximately 95 miles of streets in Snyder. The total area needing improvements comes to 1,715,708-square yards, resulting in the projected cost of $32 million. All repairs would have an expected life of three to 20 years of maintenance.
