Chamber of Commerce

Three upcoming events should receive funding when the Snyder Chamber of Commerce board of directors meets Monday.

The Hotel Occupancy Tax fund committee will recommend funding the Diez y Seis de Septiembre celebration planned Sept. 11-12; the Snyder Bike Rally scheduled Oct. 2-4; and the White Buffalo Days celebration set for Oct. 2-3.

Board members will vote on the 2019 financial audit and discuss emergency management, the Small Business Showcase and chamber staffing.

The board will also discuss several July events, including the Fourth of July Parade and Fireworks.

Ira ISD

The Ira ISD school board will hear reports from Principal Dale Jones, Technology Director Dave Hanes, ag science teacher Leo Sellers, Business Manager Keeli Hines and Superintendent Brian Patterson when it meets Tuesday.

The board will vote on a new activity bus lease, consider the resignations of coach and history teacher Grant Gooch and Spanish teacher Nancy Ballenger, an updated emergency operations plan and hiring new employees.

The board will meet in closed session to discuss personnel. Any action resulting from items discussed in the closed session will be voted on when the board returns to open session.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Ira ISD Gymnasium, 6143 W. FM 1606.

DCOS

The Development Corporation of Snyder board of directors will discuss business creation and hiring an interim director when it meets at noon Wednesday.

According to the meeting’s agenda, the DCOS board will start the meeting with a citizen’s forum before adjourning into closed session to discuss business prospects and real estate matters. The board will return to open session before voting on any items discussed in the closed session.

Executive Director Brooke Proctor and C’Ella Clayton will give an update on the organization’s Snyder Thrives grant program, which provided $2,000 grants to 20 local businesses.

The board will then turn its attention to a proposal by the Blanco-based Mike Barnes Group economic development consulting firm to provide an interim executive director for the DCOS to replace Proctor, who moved to Lubbock.

The board will also discuss a Chapter 380 rental housing support incentive. Chapter 380 agreements usually involve taxing entities providing grants or loans through sales tax incentive agreements.

The board will meet at the DCOS office, 2514 Ave. R.

The meeting is open to the public.

Commissioners

When they meet Tuesday, commissioners will discuss several county-owned recreational facilities, including memberships at the Scurry County Golf Course, a possible combined fee for use of the golf course and the Towle Park Armory and whether to open various facilities run by the Parks Department. 

County Judge Dan Hicks said the county’s swimming pool and splash pad in Towle Park are on the list for discussion.

The court will vote whether to accept donations to county entities and additional revenues in the form of supplemental payments from the Texas Association of Counties (TAC). According to the agenda, one of the TAC supplements will go toward the purchase of an ambulance.

Commissioners plan to consider appointing Snyder High School’s Worsham Auditorium as a temporary annex for the District Court.

The court will hear a presentation of the 2019 audit by Condley and Co. financial services.

The court will also vote on line-item transfers, budget amendments and accounts payable.

The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. in the third floor county courtroom at the Scurry County Courthouse and is open to the public.
