Four people are headed to prison after appearances in District Judge Ernie B. Armstrong’s courtroom recently.
Anthony Jordan Castillo, 21, of Snyder, was given a 10-year sentence after he failed to register as a sex offender, which is a third-degree felony.
In addition to the sentence on that charge, he was ordered to pay a $1,500 fine and $909 in court and attorney fees.
Castillo was originally charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony, following a June 15, 2012 incident. In February 2013, he was given a 10-year probated sentence, deferred adjudication, and ordered to pay a $1,500 fine and $60 in court costs, as well as to participate in the TAIP program.
He failed to register as a sex offender within 30 days of his birthday.
His victim was younger than 14 years old at the time of the assault.
The sentences will be served concurrently.
Zachary Alexander Hopkins, 29, of Snyder, was given a seven-year sentence after entering a guilty plea to a third-degree felony charge of evading arrest. He was also ordered to pay $319 in court costs.
On Nov. 25, Hopkins fled from a peace officer who was trying to arrest him.
Hopkins’ probation on a third-degree felony charge of driving while intoxicated was revoked and he will serve his original five-year sentence.
In addition to the evading arrest conviction, Hopkins tested positive for alcohol use in November and failed to remain at his residence in November.
The two sentences will be served concurrently.
Michael Wayne Gaither, 31, of Snyder, was given a 30-year sentence after he entered a guilty plea to a third-degree felony charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
He was also ordered to pay $909 in court and attorney fees.
Gaither was originally convicted of burglary of a building in July 2011, and was found in possession of a firearm before the five-year anniversary of his release for that conviction.
He has prior convictions for burglary of a habitation in 2006 in Scurry County and engaging in organized criminal activity in July 2011 in Scurry County.
Arthur Ramos Garcia, 39, of Colorado City, was given a 15-month sentence after pleading guilty to possession of a controlled substance, a state-jail felony. He was also ordered to pay a $1,500 fine, $180 in restitution and $979 in court and attorney fees.
On Sept. 3, Ramos was found in possession of less than one gram of methamphetamine.
