The Scurry County Appraisal District board of directors will receive an update on the mineral value miscalculation during Tuesday’s meeting.
Stephen Campbell, president of T.Y. Pickett, will provide the update during the 8:30 a.m. meeting in the appraisal district office.
In September, officials from the Scurry County Hospital District and Western Texas College learned that Pickett, the company which sets mineral values in the county, had filed and omissions and errors insurance claim.
Scurry County Chief Appraiser Larry Crooks told the hospital’s board of directors during last month’s meeting that Campbell received notification from the insurance company and has provided requested information to make a claim.
The letter to Crooks stated that Pickett officials do not “know how it will play out.”
A miscalculation in entering mineral values for Occidental Petroleum cost the hospital district a $245,000 loss in projected revenue. The college could lose up to $277,000 in projected revenue.
The appraisal district board is also scheduled to discuss the Pickett contract and appoint members to the appraisal review board.
An executive session for the evaluation of Crooks is scheduled and any action will be taken in open session.
