With Feb. 28 being the deadline to submit nominations for the Snyder Chamber of Commerce’s annual awards, officials said they have not received many from the community.

Executive Assistant Sandra Salinas said the nominations have been coming at a slow pace, but expects it to pick up with the deadline being at the end of the month.

Awards will be presented at the annual membership banquet, which will be held April 20 at The Coliseum.

Banquet tickets are $35 each and are available at the chamber office.

Among the awards is the McLaughlin Award, which is given to an individual who has made significant contributions to the oil industry.

The Winston Award is given to a person who displays leadership and progressiveness in agriculture.

The exemplary service award is presented to an individual who promotes Snyder wherever they go and a person who goes above and beyond for the chamber is presented with the chamber’s choice award.

The Vestal Award, also known as the Mayor’s Award, is given to the person who has made contributions to the development of Snyder through cultural, economic or government-related activities.

The Sizemore Award, formerly known as the Gold Coater of the Year, is presented to the Gold Coat member who tallies the most points according to the Gold Coat bylaws point system.

Also to be presented will be the business of the year award, which was first awarded in 1995.

The education excellence award recognizes a person for their lifetime achievement in teaching at one of the Snyder public schools.
