The Snyder Chamber of Commerce board of directors unanimously approved two hotel occupancy tax (HOT) requests during Monday’s meeting.
This weekend’s Snyder Trade Days will receive $3,000 while $5,500 was approved for the West Texas Taekwondo Championship on Feb. 6.
No representatives of either group was present, but Sandra Salinas, the chamber’s assistant director, reviewed the applications.
Salinas said 75 percent of the vendors for Snyder Trade Days are from out-of-town. A portion of the profits will be donated to local organizations, the application stated.
Zane Sterling reported that all three performances of A Deceitful Day in Deception sold out at the Ritz Community Theatre and he did not spend the entire $2,500 in HOT funds he received. He presented a check for $1,998 to the board.
Sterling also reported that Historic Scurry County, Inc., sold refreshments and made a $515 profit. At least 13 rooms were used by out-of-town people who bought tickets for the production.
Three new directors were approved — Richard Reed, Kenny Miller and Kat Nielson. The board also accepted the verbal resignation of Mindy Wills. Nelson will serve out the remainder of Wills’ term.
Officers elected for 2016 were Jeff Knowles, president; Jason Cave, president-elect; Billy Mebane, vice president; and Hope Heaton, treasurer.
Executive Director Linda Molina talked about adding on to the building in order to make room for a visitors’ center and gift shop, which would be located in the front area of the building, and a large storage area in the back area of the building.
HOT funds could be used to pay for the expansion, Molina said. Preliminary plans are in the talking stage now.
